On what’s supposed to be an abandoned highway in Yellowstone National Park, photographer Alex Wypszinski captured hair-raising photos of nature in motion.
It began when Wypszinski heard a thundering noise coming from behind him. When he turned to look, he saw two brown blurs he thought were moose running straight for him. Wypszinski immediately took out his camera and began shooting, but what he saw in his camera lens blew him away.
“I thought I was having a hallucination or something, I couldn’t believe what that buffalo looked like,” Wypszinski said.
It turned out one of those brown blurs was an injured bison, badly burned by one of the many hot spots in Yellowstone. And the other brown blur was a hungry grizzly trying to get its mouth around an already cooked meal.
Now, most people would get out of the way if they saw two huge animals barreling toward them, but Wypszinski stood his ground, and took 14 mind-blowing photos. Wypszinski said when the two animals reached the woods, the bear decided the hunt wasn’t worth the effort.
But the hot discussion topic here comes from what transpired the next day. Park officials found the injured bison after hearing Wypszinski’s story and put it down because of its burn wounds, and this of course upset several people.
